A new Norwegian escape

Dark pine, dragon heads and the smell of tar.

Stavkirke Royale Casino Hotel is a fictional destination built around Norway's great medieval woodcraft—the towering stave churches with their tiered shingled roofs, carved dragon heads and portals of interlacing beasts, black with the pine tar that has protected them for eight hundred years. Dark pitch pine, ox-blood red, warm copper and pale birch run through the whole casino hotel.

Trace the carved portals in the entrance hall by day. Breathe the tar and woodsmoke of the great timber halls. Then step through the carved door into our adults-only casino salon, warm and low beneath a shingled ceiling. Everything in this casino hotel is worked in wood by hand, in a tradition older than almost any building still standing in the north.

Langhus Restaurant

The longhouse table.

Our signature restaurant is a great timber longhouse with a fire down the middle and long shared tables—slow-cooked lamb and reindeer, cured and smoked fish, root vegetables, cloudberries, and flatbread and dark bread baked at the hearth. Aquavit and mead are poured, the beer is Norwegian, and the hall opens onto the casino hotel salon a few steps away.
